Energy

Along with the marvels of modern civilization have come inefficient energy use and a resultant increase in carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere. There is general agreement that the increase in greenhouse gases is exacerbating global warming and that we must address this issue immediately if we are to avert disaster. Changes in our sources of energy, a reduction in energy usage and an increase in our efficiency of usage are all necessary.
Current Project: Claremont is currently a semi-finalist in the $5 million Georgetown University Energy Prize competition.

Related Projects:
  • Sustainable Claremont worked with a group of interested citizens to establish the Claremont Home Energy Retrofit Project (CHERP) which is now going state-wide.
  • Claremont came second in the 2014 CoolCalifornia competition to reduce energy use, winning about $23,000.
  • Sustainable Claremont has joined the Energy Champions program through The Energy Network, which provides Claremont residents with an array of information regarding Home Upgrade, Cool Comfort Financing, Home Energy Loans, Upgrade Coupons, etc.  Residents performing a retrofit can select Sustainable Claremont as their Energy Champion and then report when it's been completed, and The Energy Network will give Sustainable Claremont up to $400 to further promote energy efficiency in Claremont!
